What is PSIpress about?
PSIpress publishes and distributes interesting and informative material of a scientific nature. We appeal to a broad audience base, providing food for thought for everyone from researchers to the generally curious. We publish nonfiction titles having to do with mathematics, the natural or social sciences, technology, and engineering.
How can I get a print or electronic version of a PSIpress book?
To view our selection or to purchase one of our books (by order or download), go to our store page. We publish paper books for your shelves and electronic books for your modern eReader (Kindle, iPad, iPhone, etc.).
How do you consider applications?
We invite submissions of everything from ideas to finished manuscripts, but first we need to hear about you and your book. Please see our author application page for a description of what we need from you. Once you submit your book or book idea, we will be in contact shortly regarding the status of your proposal.
Is there an application fee?
There are no application fees or setup charges of any kind! Submission of a book proposal does not obligate you to PSIpress in any way.
How can I increase my chances of being accepted?
Be thorough and concise in your application. If you have experience related to your book title, be sure list that with your information under ‘Author credentials’ which will tell us (and, if published, your potential readers) more about yourself and your expertise.
We are looking for books that will be of interest to our readers, exhibit accurate content, demonstrate good writing quality, and have well-organized information.
If you have particular goals for this book or ideas of what kind of readers would be interested in your book, please use the ‘Additional information’ field to let us know about your plans. Any additional information you can provide, even if we do not directly request it, would be useful in evaluating your application.
What’s the process?
Once a work has been tentatively accepted for publication, we can then negotiate a standard author’s contract establishing enumerated rights, a specified royalty schedule, and appropriate deadlines. Our goal is to work with you to determine the best process to secure timely publication and improved author royalties.
We will submit your document to our editorial and fact-checking review, agree on a copyediting process, and ensure that the document is properly formatted for print or electronic publication.
Depending on the publishing process agreed on, we hope to provide author royalties of up to 20% of the book’s sale price.
Up to 20% author royalties? What’s the catch?
PSIpress’s core mission is to publish books primarily in scientific, technical, and related fields, and to do so in a way that maximizes author compensation while keeping editorial, advertising, and promotion expenses to a minimum. To this end, accepted authors will be solicited to submit work that is substantially complete and requires minimal editing by PSIpress. PSIpress will work with authors to determine the best use of resources with the goal of being able to provide substantial royalties for published titles.
This means that although we will review your manuscript to ensure it meets our standards, and we will work with you to produce a quality book, we expect that the officially-submitted document will be largely complete and revised. Although you can submit your manuscript to us for copyediting, you may prefer to make an agreement with a peer or colleague who will review your work and make recommendations to you. We hope that being able to provide you with a higher royalty rate makes this added responsibility worthwhile. Our intention in these negotiations is to customize our publishing process to best suit each author.
What is your publishing agreement or author contract?
We do not make our publishing agreement available until we are ready to make a formal offer. However, we do provide an abbreviated summary that highlights the more important parts of our publishing agreement on the publishing agreement page.
Why don’t you capitalize all the words in your titles?
We only capitalize when necessary. That’s the style.
How is your name pronounced?
Proper pronunciation would be to pronounce each of the letters in the acronym ‘PSI’ followed by the word ‘press’, but we would be delighted to be pronounced ‘cypress’, like the tree.
