If your book is accepted for publication by PSIpress, we will then negotiate a publishing agreement.
Below is an abbreviated list of the main points in the agreement:
- You assign PSIpress rights to publish your work in different formats such as printed and electronic formats.
- You warrant that you are the sole author of the work, or that you have made proper arrangements.
The following sections of our agreement shall be customized to best suit each author and publishing scenario:
- Deadlines for the author to deliver work to PSIpress,
- The format in which work will be delivered,
- Deadlines for PSIpress to publish the work, and
- Details of author advance / royalty schedule.
Please note that contract details are subject to negotiation, and so cannot be determined in advance of a final agreement between the author and PSIpress to publish the work.
Detailed publishing agreement
The PSIpress publishing agreement (author contract), to be signed only after an author’s book proposal is accepted, is summarized by sections, here:
- Grant of rights
In the grant of rights the author assigns certain publishing rights to PSIpress. These include book publication rights in both printed and electronic format, and possibly other rights—for example, foreign language publication.
- Permission for copyrighted material
In this section the author commits to getting legal permission from other authors or their publishers for any quoted material.
- Author’s warranties
Here the author(s) warrants that he(they) is(are) the sole author(s) of the work in question, and agrees to hold the publisher harmless for any breach of this warranty.
- Author’s delivery
This section specifies the date by which the author will deliver the completed work to PSIpress, as well as the format in which it will be delivered.
- Publication date and style
Here PSIpress specifies the date by which it will publish the work, and agrees that failure to publish by the agreed date will cause the rights granted by the author in the “Grant of rights” to revert to the Author.
- Copyright
This section deals with the author’s responsibilities to PSIpress in regard to ownership of the copyright, normally owned by the author, if sold or transferred by the author. This section also addresses certain notification responsibilities of the author in the case of publication of the work (in whole or part) in forms or media not included in the author’s grant of rights to PSIpress.
- Author’s advance
This specifies the payment due the author as an advance against royalties. This advance is expected to be zero, but can be negotiated under special circumstances, such as author hardship.
- Royalty rates, reports and payment schedule
This section lays out the specific royalty rates to be paid to the author. Rates are specified as a percentage of the sale price of the work, and may vary with the publication format (e.g., electronic format sales may pay a higher rate). The royalty reporting and payment periods are also specified in this section.
- Discontinuance of publication
This section specifies that the author may request reversion of publication rights if PSIpress allows the work to go out of print for more than a nominal time period.
- Miscellaneous legal Items
The remaining sections primarily deal with technical and administrative legal matters, such as force majeure, severability, time limits for bringing suit, arbitration, and so forth.
Note that contract details are subject to negotiation, and cannot be determined in advance of an offer by PSIpress to publish the work.
